Where Real Food doesn’t cost the earth
We Jeffers have been Sunshine Coast farmers since 1954. It means that we know what’s what and who’s who when it comes to sourcing the very best local produce. And we still grow a lot of our own fresh fruit and veg from our farms in Nambour and Woombye.
On the farm we grow seasonally: Avocados, Persimmons, Zucchini, Salad Mix, Fresh Herbs, Kale, Heirloom Tomatoes, Corn and Cherry Tomatoes. Both the farm and retail operations are run by the Jeffers’ family, with brothers Stephen and Jon the driving force.
Stephen has been farming from the day he left school. He began share farming on a 25 acre property in Palmwoods where he was growing Avocados, custard apples, and persimmon trees. From there he took on the management of a Persimmon and Avocado farm on the Eastern side of Nambour in a beautiful, lush, green valley. Jon finished high school and quickly become second in charge of a successful tropical fruit farm. Over his 10 years there, he was integral to the establishment of a peach & nectarine orchard and the planting of figs, custard apples and our favourite….. the persimmon! As their confidence increased on the farming front, they decided to spread their wings by venturing into the retail industry and purchased the Yandina Fruit Market. This tiny little shop turned over some of the best fruit on the coast, soon outgrowing its small premises, which lead to the birth of Jeffers Market. In 2011 they expanded their current location on the corner of Farrell and Steven Street in Yandina by opening a second store in the Sunshine Home Makers Centre the opposite end to Bunnings.
However, this didn’t diminish the Jeffers’ need to turn over soil, and so the farm produce keeps coming. We believe in growing the most nutritious produce and over the years have passionately sought out ways to grow better, more flavourful, nutrient dense produce. We have been at the cutting edge of new farming practises which focus on growing and nurturing soil, feeding good bacteria and managing weeds and pests with natural methods. The results have been amazing. Our trees continue to yield greater quantity and quality of fruit, the flavours in our herbs and vegetables are more intense and our plants are more disease resistant than ever before. This means no sprays on our leafy greens and herbs and our tomatoes are bursting with flavour!
In the late 2000’s both Jon and Stephen married and started families of their own. As those with children will attest, they became more passionate about feeding their respective families good, healthy food. Thus, they began to source whole, unprocessed foods to complement their range of fruit and vegetables.
“We wanted to supply real food at a reasonable price. Eating well should be simple and shouldn’t cost the earth (or your wallets!). That is the message we wanted to portray through what we stock in our stores.” – Stephen Jeffers
Some Farm Photos
We specialise in the unusual, so if you are looking for edible flowers for your next dinner party, or the South African’s favourite gem squash, we stock it! What better way to liven up the dinner table than a locally made condiment to pair with the fresh, wholesome produce and groceries all found within our walls.
We cater for all specialty diets with something for every price range.
We also produce our own range of gourmet goodies. The mango chutney and persimmon jam are made from fruit grown on our farms & are produced locally. We recommend our Homemade Tomato Sauce. It’s made with Mum’s secret recipe and our home grown tomatoes. It doesn’t get more local than that!
Our buying policy is like throwing a stone into creek and watching the ripples form. The first ripple is home grown – if we can grow it, we do and always in season. The second ripple is our local producers – we support the famers and pay a fair price for their produce. The third ripple is Australia – Aussie farmers produce some of the best quality produce in the world, so we buy Aussie grown. Only when these are unavailable do we source internationally. After all, no one grows a kiwi quite like, well, the Kiwi’s.
These unusual items often raise a few questions; what is it? Where are they from? How do you eat it? Our staff are more than happy to answer your questions.
Dairy & Frozen
Dairy& Frozen Goods
Did you know that we have no less than three nationally renowned cheese makers in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland? And yes, we stock their products. But that’s not all, there are dips, yoghurts and various types of milk – goat, cow and camel as well as a fantastic range of cheeses and condiments.
In the freezer we have coconut ice cream, frozen berries, fish and seafood, vegan sausages and frozen meals. There are products you wouldn’t normally expect to find in just any chiller or freezer such as gluten free, organic, gourmet, local and whole food offerings.
There seems to be a supplement out there for almost every nutrient imaginable! But how did we consume such nutrients before this supplement industry boom? Wholefoods!
Simple, minimally processed, delicious and nutritious. Whilst fruit and veg claim a large portion of what can be classified as wholefoods, we are much more than just a Farmers’ Market. Many of our grocery items are minimally processed, thus retaining much of their nutritional value compared to their ultra-processed counterparts.
We know just how hard it can be to find those niche ingredients for certain diets and as such, cater for a large range of dietary requirements.
Whether you are celiac, lactose intolerant, diabetic or perhaps following a Mediterranean, GAPS or paleo diet, we have you covered! We have nuts, seeds, legumes, grains, pulses, flours and sweeteners of all types.
While you are in our stores, be sure to check out our growing range of organic groceries and produce. We know it can all be quite confusing at times but our staff are more than happy answer any of your questions!
Wherever possible we ‘grow our own’ and in many cases produce is picked on our farm in the morning and delivered to the stores within hours. You can’t get any fresher than that!
Of course we can’t grow everything, so we have also developed a fantastic network of local producers who supply directly to our stores. Since not everything grows in our region, we use our knowledge as farmers to source ethically grown, quality produce from family farms around Australia.
We then follow a simple ‘farm to shop’ process. That means produce makes it from growers to our stores in the shortest possible time frame ensuring our customers receive only the freshest quality produce which represents great value for money.
We also cater for large and wholesale orders, particularly for local community organisations. If you are ever looking for something particular that we don’t usually stock, just see any of our friendly team who will always be happy to help.
South East Queensland is not only famous for its produce, but also our artisan produced goods. That’s why you will always find a huge selection of the very best available on our shelves.
From the iconic brands to the lesser known, but fantastically tasty offerings of areas such as our wonderful Hinterland Regions and beyond. We search high and low to offer our customers only the best of all things local. Of course not everything is produced locally, so you will also find a good range of your favourite international products.
The word “organic” refers to the way farmers grow and process agricultural products, such as fruits, vegetables, grains, dairy products and meat. Organic farming practices are designed to encourage soil and water conservation and reduce pollution.
Farmers who grow organic produce and meat don’t use conventional methods to fertilize, control weeds or prevent livestock disease. For example, rather than using chemical weedkillers, organic farmers may conduct more sophisticated crop rotations and spread mulch or manure to keep weeds at bay.
At Jeffers’ we offer a fantastic range of organic produce and products, many of which are locally produced. We are absolutely committed to ensuring the needs of our customers are always exceeded, so if there is something you would like to see us stock, please do not hesitate to ask or use our online form.
